Neurosurgeon Highlight: Emun Abdu, M.D.

Dr. Emun Abdu is a board-certified neurosurgeon and a clinical associate professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. She currently serves as the medical director and chief of neurosurgery at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Abdu is recognized as one of the few neurosurgeons in the United States with dual training in both open cerebrovascular and endovascular surgery. She received her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, completed neurological surgery residency at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. She then completed advanced training through a fellowship in cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, Washington.

Her cerebrovascular work focuses on aneurysm clipping, arteriovenous malformations, and microneurosurgical bypass treatment of conditions like Moyamoya disease. Additionally, her endovascular work focuses on stroke intervention and many other conditions. Furthermore, she treats brain and spine tumors, degenerative spine conditions, and cases of neurotrauma. Dr. Abdu is also very involved in global neurosurgery. She is passionate about providing safe and affordable surgical care to underserved populations worldwide. She does this by working to bridge the gap between high-tech Western medicine and low-resource healthcare systems.
